Please read the entire FAQ. It will answer your questions about Taste and See Gardens.
Who is the farmer?
Your farmer is Bill Lensmire.
First and foremost, I am a follower of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Secondly I love being outside working on the land.
I grew up on a hog farm in northeast Wisconsin, in the township of Montpelier, just south of Luxemburg. I also worked at the Ellisville Dairy co-op cheese factory making cheddar cheese and during high school I earned my cheese makers license. After high school, I attended Carroll College in Waukesha and earned a degree in Computer Science and Mathematics. I spent many years working at GE Medical Systems, AGFA Healthcare and other companies building CT Scanners and other Healthcare computer systems.
Now I am applying all that I have learned to grow the best tasting, highest quality produce for you and my family.
As I have grown older, I know how important fresh, locally grown and chemical free food is for our health and longevity.
Where is the farm located?
Taste and See Gardens is located in Ixonia Wisconsin. If you have been to Ebert’s Greenhouse Village, we are located just south of them. If you have never been to Ebert’s, go visit them because you are missing out on a beautiful experience! Mark Ebert has built a wonderful village that truly honors Jesus Christ!
Why a Pick-Your-Own Farm?
I want you and your family to experience picking your own produce.
I want you to taste the goodness of local produce.
I want you to see how the food you are eating is grown.
I want you to talk with the farmer growing your food.
I want you to ask questions as to how I grow this food…or any other questions that you may have.
I want to help you to be a better gardener, if you have a garden.
To taste and see the wonderful produce that God grows for us! Friends that visit our farm always say how peaceful and beautiful it is out here in the country.
What are your growing practices?
I use organic methods to grow the produce. I also apply regenerative practices that help build soil health, which helps build plant health, which then helps build your health.
The ground that is being used for the Pick-Your-Own garden has in the past been certified Organic (for hay production). Ever since we purchased the land many, many years ago, we have not used any life killing chemicals (herbicide, fungicide, insecticide, etc) on the land.
When will I know when I can come out and pick?
I use email as the primary communication channel from me to you. That is why it is important for you to sign up for the farm email list.
How long will the picking season last?
For 2026, the picking season will run from August to early October (to the first killing frost). The primary picking for 2026 will be vegetables
Do you grow or sell?
We do not grow blueberries, pumpkins, and many other things. Currently, we only grow the following for 2026:
carrots
beets
onions
garlic
cucumbers
bell peppers
hot peppers
slicing tomatoes
cherry tomatoes
rhubarb
summer squash
flowers
